Our Parrots Come First!

Here at Avalon Aviary the parrots come first, period. Our breeder birds are beautiful and healthy. They have an excellent diet plus plenty of bird toys, plants, sounds of the rainforest and nature-inspired music to amuse them. Parrot chicks are usually hatched under their parents. After several weeks the chicks are brought into our intensive-care nursery. They are raised and socialized using the best techniques to enable them to become self-confident, exploratory, well-adjusted companion parrots. Our goal is to raise the absolutely best hand-raised parrots available. Properly raised parrots such as these can become your friends for life.

Parrots Having FunIf you think you want a parrot, we urge you to start with some of our informative articles to help you decide if a parrot is right for you, in our resource center. Parrots aren't for everyone. Parrots are loud, messy, destructive, difficult, demanding, expensive, instinctual, emotional, intelligent, high-maintenance pets than can live 30-100 years. They attach to their family "flock" and it is hard on them to change homes multiple times during their lifetimes, so don't get a parrot unless you are willing to make a lifetime commitment and plan for them in your will! You can also have a rich, complex relationship with them; a relationship more remarkable than any other type of pet. They are beautiful, interactive, comical, and playful companions. Many can talk and imitate strange sounds. They can live a very long time, so in most cases they will outlive other types of pets. Read more about the pros and cons of having a pet parrot in the deciding if a parrot is right for you section of our website.

If you have decided that you are ready for a bird, select from different species below to find out more about them. Our species-specific information covers both the pros and cons of each species.

If you are interested in purchasing one of our companion parrots, the first step is a qualification interview to determine if a parrot is a good fit and to make sure you know what you are getting into. Then we help you select the right pet bird for your situation. We also offer an extremely informative companion parrot care seminar. Our birds are not the least expensive on the market. This is because the amount of individual attention, training, diet and quality of care they receive here does not come for free, and we need to stay in business to be able to continue to provide high-quality parrots to the public. Making the up-front investment in one of our birds can save you a great deal of problems, expense and heartaches down the road. Companion parrots that have been properly raised and well socialized as they are growing up are much less likely to develop behavior and health problems later in life. Our birds are DNA sexed (if needed), and include the best behavior book on the market, an appropriate toy, an excellent health guarantee and admission to the companion parrot care seminar for your family.

If you are getting ready to bring a parrot home, our checklist of what birds need is helpful, and our staff can make species-specific recommendations for cages, playstands, toys and other things your feathered friend needs.

If you already have a pet bird of any kind, or have a friend who has a pet bird, our staff can help guide you to appropriate bird toys, perches, food and other products from our bird supply store.
